1990 Mini Cooper RSP 1 of 1050

Hard to know where to start with this one, since in my 35+ years a Mini Specialist, this is possibly my favourite Mini.  I have known this Mini for over 20 years, I have owned it & sold it 2-3 times. I have serviced, MOT’d and looked after this Mini for those 20+ years.

So, what is a Cooper RSP – well go on Google, find the RSP Register and all will be explained but for now it’s this:-

The Mini Cooper RSP was introduced in 1990 to reintroduce the Mini Cooper to the Mini range. The car was the brainchild of the original creator of the Mini Cooper, John Cooper. He’d been selling Cooper conversions in boxes to mainly Japanese customers and he did a conversion on a few Mini Rose/Sky and Flames in 998cc form. The Rover Group, and more Graham Day, the Rover MD, asked John Cooper to come into Longbridge one day to tell him that they liked what he’d been doing to the Mini and what did he think THEY should do next. The result was that the Mini was sent to Rover Special Products and they decided to put the MG Metro 1275cc engine in with the Mini 30 type interior and a few special other bits, this is now known as the Mini Cooper RSP or sometimes LE (for limited edition). 1650 RSP Coopers were built, 600 going to other countries like Japan, Germany and South Africa, while the remaining 1050 stayed in Britain

The Mini RSP Cooper was so successful Rover continued to sell Mini Coopers BUT NOT RSPs – Rover removed lots of the nice bits to get the price down – so hence RSPs stand out from the crowd.

I am advertising this RSP for the current owner, who due to ill health can sadly no longer keep the RSP.

He bought it from me in 2011 and it has returned each year for a service & MOT plus at times for engine bay detailed, bodywork overhaul and anything it needed.

Lots of detailed history, old MOTs & original owners manual. Even has original Radio/Cassette 

The front has been fully restored using Heritage panels including inner wings, scuttle, apex panels, front panel, wings and bonnet. The engine bay & engine was detailed when being refitted. The owner has spend in excess of £20K maintaining & detailing his RSP over the past 14 years as he loved this RSP. 

Everyone seems to worry about mileage on cars but in truth ownership & maintenance is far more import. This Mini has covered 103394miles in 35 years  that’s not a great deal, 15785miles driven in the last 14 years when the maintenance has been 2nd to none.  The engine is very strong and runs perfectly.  Spend a lot more & buy a low mileage one but then you can’t really use it as it will devalue too much.  Minis are for using in my humble opinion.
