1990 Mini Cooper RSP 1 of 1050

THIS IS A RESTORASTION PROJECT – A NICE WINTERS JOB, AS DEREK OF “BANGERS & CASH” WOULD SAY “I LITTLE WEEKEND WORK!”

So, what is a Cooper RSP – well go on Google, find the RSP Register and all will be explained but for now it’s this:-

The Mini Cooper RSP was introduced in 1990 to reintroduce the Mini Cooper to the Mini range. The car was the brainchild of the original creator of the Mini Cooper, John Cooper. He’d been selling Cooper conversions in boxes to mainly Japanese customers and he did a conversion on a few Mini Rose/Sky and Flames in 998cc form. The Rover Group, and more Graham Day, the Rover MD, asked John Cooper to come into Longbridge one day to tell him that they liked what he’d been doing to the Mini and what did he think THEY should do next. The result was that the Mini was sent to Rover Special Products and they decided to put the MG Metro 1275cc engine in with the Mini 30 type interior and a few special other bits, this is now known as the Mini Cooper RSP or sometimes LE (for limited edition). 1650 RSP Coopers were built, 600 going to other countries like Japan, Germany and South Africa, while the remaining 1050 stayed in Britain

My intention was to restore it and keep it for me, however like so many petrol heads I just cannot keep all the projects I have plus I need to work on the customers Mins as I am a Classic Mini Specialist & have been for 35+ years – I have a queue of restoration work!1 I suspect if any of my customers are reading this they will be please to think it’s one less Mini for Dean to work on !!

It is currently as seen in a few of the photos with the engine out.  Engine is good and strong I drove it before work started, mile covered is 76994 – mot suggests this is genuine – go on gov.uk search H636XFR

I have restored the rear end as seen in photos with Heritage panels. My next stage (but you can change this of course) was to replace the front end and sills, then respray and re-assemble.

I have included a few photos showing the condition when I bought it.

Parts are all stored so will be included but not fitted!

I have a trailer so included in the sale price is delivery to any UK Mainland destination 4-5 hours’ drive away from Soham, Cambridgeshire, which I think includes Newcastle, Liverpool, Exeter, Kent, Most of Wales, Midlands, Bristol. I appreciate that is not an exact science so please discuss with me your location and see if I can deliver it.
